When the world was young
The people spoke with one tongue
Fear and strife never troubled the land

With the flood abated
Noah's seed repopulated
From the clouds God smiled down on Man

They all lived in one place
They were all the same race
Peace on Earth gave them time to aspire

Under God's leery eye
His children reached for the sky
Bricks and mortar they stacked ever higher

They sought the god of their dread
And brought His wrath down instead
God humbled Man with frightful power

From each mouth came strange sounds
Then God scattered them round
Babel became history's name for their tower

Thus, united no more
greed and hate brought on war
Which still causes us much misery

Bigotry now abides
Even God has picked sides!
Bitter fruit from a forbidden tree

Closing comments:

Chapter 11 of Genesis opens with the contradictory statement:

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

GENESIS 11:1-4

Contradictory? Consider the post-flood genealogy for the sons of Noah in the preceding chapter. It tells a very different story about the dawn of civilization. And God plays no part in it. See for yourself.

...By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

GENESIS 10:5 (Again in 10:20,&10:31,32)

...And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord. And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

GENESIS 10:8-10

Which one was it? Did mankind migrate and develop different languages on their own, or did God confound their speech and scatter them across the globe just to stop their stairway to Heaven? You can't have it both ways, brothers and sisters. Think about it.
